Working At Home -- With The Kids

By James Martell

Arlene and I have worked at home for most of our married life.  And I could not imagine it any other way.  It's been great not having to commute, but the greatest thing has been watching our kids grow up.

Although we worked in different types of businesses over the years, it has been during our Internets businesses the kids have gone from tykes to kids to adults.

Back in the early Internet days we took a photo of us online while I was showing the kids a funny little game.  Many have seen this photo and commented that it must be great to have the kids around while working.  And, yes, it is great.

Although, I'll admit there have been times when I had to quiet them down in order to get work done -- as most parents reading this can imagine.

These days though that's not much of an issue since Adam is now 21, Justin is 20 Shelby is 18 and my youngest, Victoria is 13.  Not kids any more!

I guess being at home with them is one reason why the Martell household has been a magnet for their friends, because it seems our house is where they like to hang out, which is great for us.

I often wonder what their friends think we do for a living since Arlene and I are usually at our desks or shuffling the kids to their various functions.

It's an unusual way to live but I wouldn't have it any other way

All the best,
