What a pleasure it is to
welcome you to the very
first edition of our
newsletter.
As many know, Arlene and I
have had the good fortune to
raise our family while
working from home.
Since 1999 we have been able
to do this on the Internet
by publishing websites that
earn revenue through
advertising, as well
publishing training
materials for those wishing
to do the same.

Over the many years I've been in
affiliate marketing -- not the
right phrase, really, but one
that partly describes what I do
-- I've always enjoyed attending
the many industry events that
surround this emerging industry.
Once such event is Affiliate
Summit, founded by Shawn Collins
and Missy Ward.
Affiliate Summit, which is held
twice a year in North America;
once in Las Vegas and once on
the east coast, has grown from
one annual event with 200
attendees in 2004, to three
annual with the Las Vegas event
hosting 3200 attendees in 2009!

Over the years I've often been
asked, "how do I do it?"
The question being directed at
my Internet publishing business,
which includes dozens of websites
in the "affiliate" arena as well
as the many projects that teach
others what I know.
And I guess the real answer is
that I've learned the importance
of leveraging my time and
talents through outsourcing.
Even before the Internet I
understood the power of
surrounding myself with people
who had a better grasp than I
did of key business functions
such as accounting, bookkeeping,
technical issues, etc.
But, unlike the old days, where
finding talented people was
difficult and expensive, the
Internet offers Internet
entrepreneurs an immediate way
to find talent through
outsourcing services such as
Elance.com.

Arlene and I have worked at
home for most of our married
life. And I could not
imagine it any other way.
It's been great not having
to commute, but the greatest
thing has been watching our
kids grow up.
Although we worked in
different types of
businesses over the years,
it has been during our
Internets businesses the
kids have gone from tykes to
kids to adults.
Back in the early Internet
days we took a photo of us
online while I was showing
the kids a funny little
game. Many have seen this
photo and commented that it
must be great to have the
kids around while working.
And, yes, it is great.

James asked me to write an
article about my early
reluctance to build my first
website EpilepsyMoms.com.
And it's not hard to do
because I remember how
resistant I was to the idea.
Even though I had watched
James successfully publish
many websites I had never
paid that much attention to
the details of just exactly
how he did it.
And now, here he was urging
me to build a website from
scratch in order to let
students of his new training
look over our shoulders as
he coached me.

As
many know, I've been fortunate
since 1999 to have had
tremendous success publishing
websites that earned revenue
through advertising revenue;
affiliate revenue in the early
days and nowadays a mix of
Google AdSense and affiliate links.
Initially I chose topics based
on two things; 1)
abundant keyword searches, 2)
available merchants.
This worked for many years and
generated great income, but
after while it got "old"
publishing on topics that had no
personal appeal. For
instance, credit cards.
Yes, it made a lot of money.
But, no, it wasn't
interesting writing articles on
the topic.
