Use Your Passion To Choose Your
Topic By James Martell We all have dreams. Yours may be a British roadster, a trip to Hawaii, or a 60-foot yacht. Mine was a Shelby Cobra. I first laid eyes on my dream car in 1979. I was out for a walk with my then-girlfriend, Arlene (now my wife of 24 years), in Kelowna, BC, Canada, when I spotted it. I had to have one. I was instantly hooked. I became a huge fan of Carroll Shelby and his legendary Shelby Cobra, all the while daydreaming about driving around in one of my own. By the time the mid-90s approached, my desire had fallen by the wayside. Unfortunately, life just seems to get in the way of our dreams. I had gotten married, my two sons Adam and Justin had been born, followed by the birth of my first daughter - named Shelby of course - and then a second daughter named Victoria. I was a carpenter by trade and owning a Cobra seemed like a long shot, especially with four children. Instead, I focused on starting my own construction company and sunk my hard-earned money into my first house. In the early 1990s, I left the construction industry and started a telecom company. In 1999, a friend brought my attention to the world of affiliate marketing and pay-for-performance marketing. In 2003, I established my current company, Net Guides Publishing, Inc., distributing a downloadable training manual, an audio newsletter, and many dozens of profitable websites. However, the Shelby Cobra did not find its way to one of those websites. As I became more successful, my buried Cobra dream reappeared. In 2004, I finally received word from my accountant that I could afford a Cobra replica, and so it came time to start searching for the right one. I found Peter Jacobsen of Calgary, Alberta through an online search. I flew to Calgary with my son, Justin, to meet with Peter. When I left that meeting, Peter was ready to start work on a custom-built Cobra replica, a blue model complete with two white stripes, high performance race engine, racing suspension and brakes, and all of the goodies.
Success is about passion. It’s about finding that one “thing” that motivates you and pushes you to your limits. That force - whether it be a car, a vacation, or a cottage on the beach – may just be the path to your future. The point is, you don’t have to wait to build a successful affiliate marketing business to create a site about your dreams. The site can come before the success. Take your dream and turn it into something that will inspire others and make them take notice. It could be a profitable site about Ferraris, white sand beaches, or Paris. Whatever your interest, seize the opportunity and create a place for individuals with a shared passion to come together. I did exactly that in July of 2007. My longstanding Cobra dream finally made its online debut through KitCarConnection.com, a website I created to unite car lovers. You see, dreams don’t have to remain dreams. Only you can control your own destiny, and there exists a wealth of opportunity for everyone. Your lifelong aspirations can become a reality, regardless of the financial situation you currently face, if you take the right approach. Fact is, affiliate marketers just starting out often have a difficult time choosing a topic for their affiliate site. I was no different. Over 100 websites and it never occurred to me that I should design a website around my dream car. There’s a little bit of irony here, based on the fact that your dreams can help you achieve your dreams. We all dream of financial independence, yet many of us never find a way to reach it. Now you can. Turn your passion into a business that provides you with enjoyment while also contributing to your success. Create your own storybook ending and attempt to surprise yourself. Before you know it, you will be on your way to owning your dream car, taking your dream vacation, or retiring at a young age. Never give up on your dreams; they can lead you through an amazing journey. All the best,
