In This Issue...

  • Obama Administration Reaches Out To Young Internet Entrepreneurs -- If you were under the age of 40 and founder of an innovative Internet startup then the Obama team wanted to meet with you to discuss how social media could be used to get Obama’s message of change out to the people. iContact’s co-founder, Ryan P. Allis was at this meeting of 30 members of The Summit Series, billed as the WHITE HOUSE SUMMIT, on March 6th, 2009. Ryan was joined by the founders of Twitter, Zappos, Daily Candy, Blackboard, Mint, Kluster, and College Humor and Kiva to name but a few. (Part two of a 2-part series started in the April 1st edition. Please check archives for part one)

  • Arlene’s Becoming Quite the Podcaster – Visitors to www.epilepsymoms.com are treated with a series of Podcasts recorded by phone with experts in the field of childhood autism and related disorders. In this article Arlene outlines the procedures and protocols for producing broadcast quality podcasts for your site. Rich media sites are the trend these days. So read this article to get a basic idea of how it’s done.

  • James' Tips & Techniques – How I use a $50 graphics editor to make quick and easy images for websites, tutorials and presentations.

  • A Typical Day For James – It’s no secret to my family and friends that enjoy not having to get up at the crack of dawn. I got a chuckle out a line from a hilarious movie last year where the star, Jack Black, boasts, “I get up at the crack of noon!” Well, I’m not that late, but frankly, it’s how I stay productive during my peak hours between 2pm and 8pm when I get most of my work done. Working from home gives me that luxury. In this article he’ll give you a peek into his daily routine. A routine that normally begins with a coffee run to his local Tim Horton’s for two extra large take outs.

  • James’ Kit Car Site – He’ll readily admit it took awhile. But his dream car finally did arrive a few decades after him and Arlene started dreaming of owning one – free and clear. In this article, James talks about how to turn your passion into a business that provides you with enjoyment while also contributing to your success. And as a special treat for you car nuts, he’ll also give you a video tour of his 4 year old Shelby Cobra kit car. KitCarConnection.com.

Obama Administration Reaches Out To Young Internet Entrepreneurs

By James Martell

In part one of this two-part series, I talked about Ryan P. Allis, the co-founder and CEO of iContact, the company I use to send out The Martell Newsletter.

To put it lightly, Ryan is one ambitious young man who clearly knows his stuff.

The 20-something entrepreneur has already made his mark in the business world, as co-founder and CEO of iContact.com featuring 150 employees and 43,000 customers. The company sees 29 million in annual sales.

As She Tackles Her Seventh Recording, Arlene Finally Embraces The Power Of The Podcast

By Arlene Martell

I’m amazed at how effective my podcasts have been in bringing visitors to my website.

I admit that I was reluctant at first, especially after I agreed to act as the guinea pig for James’ SUPER BootCamp. There was nowhere to hide. There I was, forced to succeed or fail before an audience.

How I Use A $50 Graphics Editor To Easily Create Images For Websites And Presentations

By James Martell

No matter what type of business you’re running from home, you no doubt require the help of a graphic designer on occasion. Well, how would you feel if I told you that you could be doing the work yourself? It’s true.

Like you, I didn’t think I would be able to take care of my own image editing, but thanks to a great program, the dirty work is done for me. I started using a program called Snagit over a year ago, with no regrets.

A Typical Work Day In My Home Office

By James Martell

I guess I set myself up when I asked Arlene to share the details on her work-at-home work day.

Now people want to know what I do each day. So here goes.

My day truly starts with a trip to Tim Horton’s for an extra-large, triple cream coffee. I take the long way home and follow along the beach, making a few calls while I’m at it. This drives Arlene crazy – she can’t understand why I would rather pay for these calls than to just wait until I get home, where I can dial for free. Simple. I like to talk when I drive.

Use Your Passion To Choose A Topic (Video)

By James Martell

We all have dreams.

Yours may be a British roadster, a trip to Hawaii, or a 60-foot yacht. Mine was a Shelby Cobra.

I first laid eyes on my dream car in 1979. I was out for a walk with my then-girlfriend, Arlene (now my wife of 24 years), in Kelowna, BC, Canada, when I spotted it.
