Update on Arlene: Blogging on Other Sites

By Arlene Martell

Between the kids and work, I don’t have much time to dedicate to my website. I’m a busy mom of four and I’m in charge of customer care for the SUPER BootCamp, so the time I do invest in my site has to be effective.

Fortunately, my writers take care of new content for the website and the discussions among moms carries the forum. On my end, I record and add podcasts, send a bi-monthly newsletter, add merchants, and create additional content. Each of these tasks is equally important, since they all contribute to my growing site.

I’m currently firing on all cylinders, as they say.

While getting everything organized and put into place was a long process, the focus is now placed on maintenance and growth. I seize every opportunity to promote my website, which in turn increases my overall traffic and EpilepsyMoms.com Newsletter subscribers.

I also use my Twitter account to keep my ‘followers’ informed, in addition to issuing regular press releases and using James' PAD technique to establish natural search rankings.

All in all, I think I’m doing quite well for someone who is short on time. With so many responsibilities, I think I set a great example of the benefits of focusing your energy in the right places.

The harder you work, the luckier you get.

One of those lucky moments happened recently, when I was contacted by Erin from EpilepsyOutreach.org. Not only is Erin the president of The American Epilepsy Outreach Foundation, she’s one of my newsletter subscribers.

During a subsequent phone conversation, Erin told me that she loved my site and thought it would be a great information source for her visitors. She asked me to become a regular contributor on EpilepsyOutreach.org, and of course, I agreed.

Erin gave me my own passcode to access the blog, where I will post 2-3 times per month. I also plan to write a few new articles pertaining to epilepsy that will be sure to appeal to her readers.

To date, I’ve posted two articles, Adam’s story, and tips on raising a special needs child.

Guest blogging is a great way to promote my website and generate traffic, especially since I can link back to my own site. By posting outside of – and linking back to – my own website, my natural search results will move up a notch in Google.

If you have the opportunity to appear as a guest blogger on another website, I strongly encourage you to do so. In addition to creating an increase in traffic, the posts will also help to build your credibility.

It’s a simple equation: write what you know and the visitors will start rolling in.

All the best,
