Ken McCarthy's Eagles' Club - An
Afternoon of Conversation |
By James Martell
I very recently I had the great
opportunity of hanging out
with some great people. I
was asked by Ken McCarthy
to speak to his Eagles’ Club in the beautiful city
of Vancouver, Canada and my
hometown.
For those of you who do not
know, Ken is an icon in the
Internet marketing field. He
is the founder of the System
Seminar, which is a leading
Internet conference held
annually in Chicago. Ken
also organized and sponsored
the first conference held on
the subject of the
commercial potential of the
World Wide Web.

Winding Down The Summer And Ramping Up
For The Fall Production! |
By Arlene Martell
I
love the lazy days of summer,
but there is no question, things
do slow down and people seem to
go into a “vacation mindset”.
That’s okay – everyone needs a
break. I kind of think of it as
“the calm before the storm”.
That’s because we are getting
ready for the all important fall
“push”!
It
has been a wonderful summer for
us, the weather has been great,
we had out of town guests which
I enjoyed very much. My sister,
nephew and two friends came to
visit, went to
Playland, to the beach and we
had lots of time to catch up.

Thank You - Minding Your Manners
to Increasing Your Subscriptions |
By James Martell
Mama was right when she said
to mind your manners.
In addition, in today's
Internet age, this is even
more important as we can no
longer show each other body
language. Therefore, what we
need to do instead is to
show gratitude through our
words rather than our
actions. The great thing
about using thank you is
that it will do wonders for
your business as well.
I came upon this golden
nugget of Internet marketing
wisdom, when I was chatting
with Joshua Sloan, Director
of Online Marketing for 1 &
1 Hosting, which as many of
you know is the world's
largest and fastest-growing
Web hosting company.

The Inside Scoop: The Story
of Affiliate Buzz |
By James Martell
It was in late 2002, not
long after the launch of the
first edition of the
Affiliate Marketers
Handbook, Charles Johnston,
an associate and friend of
mine, approached me with the
idea of doing a
twice-monthly audio
newsletter.
The idea came after the two
of has a lengthy
conversation on the phone.
At the end of the call
Charles mentioned that he
wish he would have recorded
the call. He recognized that
owners of my handbook would
have learned a lot if they
could have just listened in
on our conversation -- and
so the buzz as it's
affectionately called was
born.

Kit Car Birthday Makeover, Part III |
By James Martell
The kit car site is
celebrating its second
birthday and as such, it is
time for an extreme
makeover. The original site
was constructed in Drupal
but this lacked much of the
functionality that I was
looking for. I wanted
members to be able to really
have access to videos and
photo galleries. This is
crucial and surprisingly an
area where I feel Drupal is
sadly lacking.
Therefore, the first thing I
did was to take a good hard
look at WordPress. WordPress
is a content management
system that I love and used
to develop my own personal
site, but I didn't
think it offered the best
feature set for a community
site.
