Just What We Needed! Breakation @ Whistler, B.C. By Arlene Martell
Whistler is two hours north of Vancouver, home to the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. We booked our two bedroom condo from VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner), it was easy and economical. I told them I wanted to spend around $100 per night and we ended up getting a $200 a night condo for $115. Can’t beat that! Our two-bedroom, two level condo had a full kitchen with a nice living room and fireplace and was nestled in the rugged mountains that are famous for the Whistler Blackcomb ski mountains, gondolas and new five star hotels like the Chateau Fairmont, Pan Pacific, Four Seasons, Westin and all the big resort chains. There are lots of boutique hotels and condos with Whistler Village being something that you would expect to find in the Swiss Alps. We took beautiful village strolls through shops and restaurants that wind in an around the hotels - all lit up with lights and wreaths for the Holidays.
Our son Adam came with us on this trip, and he caught up with a good friend his from Whistler. They kept very busy at the pool and watching movies.
Although there were a few days that the temperatures were below freezing, we enjoyed seeing everything white and beautiful from a couple snow falls. We went out to dinner several times but also stayed in the condo and cooked some great meals. It was so very relaxing and stimulating at the same time. These breaks always make me feel charged up and raring to get back to the business with a refreshed and clear head. If you can see your way clear to do this for yourselves, we promise you, it is worth the effort made to get in a breakation! All the best, |

James & I had been
toying with the idea of flying south for some warmer
weather before the Christmas Holiday rush, but ended
up spending several days in Whistler, BC on a
mini-vacation. We call these get-a-way’s
“breakations”, because we really do get away, but
still bring our laptops to catch up on special
projects etc. The relaxed atmosphere of this
beautiful resort town gave us the needed breathing
room to really settle back, relax but still work
when we wanted to and catch up on some reading in my
case.
We commented so many
times on how great it is to have the type of
business where we could sneak away to places like
these and still get work done. We headed to the
Internet Bistro several times. It was so nice
getting some projects completed. I finally had a
chance work on my help desk resources, which I have
not had the time to do recently. It was very
satisfying to work towards finishing that goal that
I had set for myself. Without these little
breakations, I seem to never find the time to fine
tune anything. Our business keeps us at a steady
pace until we take times like these to take in the
beauty of our wonderful world.
James even had time to
hold a presentation in our online conference room
one evening right from the Chateau Fairmont. Again,
it is so nice to have a portable business where we
are not stuck somewhere to work. Adam and I spend a
lot of time roaming through the shops, book stores
and found the chocolate factory which served up
delicious chocolate covered apples.
